I had the opportunity a few months back to head over to the island of Grenada to hang out with a friend of mine there that works for a sailboat charter company. As part of that month or so I spent living on a sailboat, we ended up sailing up to a few islands in the country of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
So the story behind this odd little island is that a local named Janti who was hired to clean up the island and get rid of the hundreds of conch shells strewn all over the place. He decided to…. well, let’s let Anthony Bourdain tell you the rest — he featured the little place as part of his “No Reservations” piece on St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Unfortunately, we didn’t get into the harbor until the evening, so Happy Island was closed down, and we had to leave early the next day, so I didn’t get a chance to have a drink there.
But, I will be back….

This “Happy” spot is near the top of my to-do list. Thanks for sharing and wetting my appetite.
Cheers!
Love it…wish I was there, having adult Hawaiian Punch!
Definitely have to make it here for a beer or 6 someday…. Awesome.

I just watched that episode last night! I haven’t been to Happy Island but the bay where Bourdain scuba dived is Petit Byahaut, the resort my husband & I operated!

That’s a shame that you didn’t get a drink there!

What a hoot Happy Island is! I think a drink on the island is a must. I like the idea of living on a sail boat too. Maybe a visit while bareboating should be worked on!

I remember when it was just a few meters wide! Janti had some great parties there, I can remember a friend of mine, we won’t mention Bill’s name, who fell of the island. There aren’t many reasons to go to Union Island other than provisions, Janti’s island is however a great one!
Heading to SVG in about 20 days, I am so excited! I’ll hopefully come back with some great pics to share.
