St. Petersburg is the only city in Russia that I liked… and I loved it. Amazing buildings and museums. The people weren’t any friendlier there than the rest of Russia, but the scenery was great.

I’m an attorney that took off on my birthday in December of 2008 to circumnavigate the globe without ever getting on an airplane. After 16 months, 6 continents and 44 countries, I made it all the way back home. Right now, I am back on the road writing about it all.

I hear it rains a lot there, hence you often get a lot of clean sky pics afterward. The blue in this photo contrasting with the building is amazing.

Wow, the architecture alone would make it worth visiting! I’ve never been to Russia, but I’ve heard some mixed reviews…. great photo, though. :)

I’ll be the first to tell you that I’m one of the people with mixed reviews myself.

Which other cities did you visit in Russia? I admit to being a bit of a Russophile, but Moscow absolutely blew my mind. St Petersburg I loved, but I found it very European, and in some ways less challenging.

I did Murmansk, St. Petersburg, Moscow and Irkutsk. Really liked St. Pete. Thought Moscow was fine. Not a big fan of the others, nor a huge fan of the Russian people in my limited experience.

First, thanks very much for your praise of my picture of the whriling dervishes. I visited St Petersburg when i was in my teens (about xxxxx years ago) and absolutely loved the buildings. I’m a great fan of Russian history and literature and your picture makes the soul soar skywards.

Your shot was great. Makes me want to try to get that shot right in the next few months while I am back over there.

There have to be few places in the world that can match the unique and amazing architecture of Russia.

    Great photo!
There are places you’d go to for the beaches or for the wildlife. Russia is one place you’d go to for amazing architecture besides Greece and Rome…

St. Petersburg had some great buildings, that is for sure.
