I’ve become a big Instagram fan over the past year or so. It was only a year ago that I got my first smartphone — up until then, I’d been traveling without any phone at all, let alone one that you could take photographs with.
I still despise talking on the phone, a remnant from my law years, but I have to say that my phone is a godsend for some things I need to do for my blog and work now. Part of that is Instagram, but that part doesn’t feel like work at all. It is just simply fun, and the photo quality on these phones these days.
In the past, I’ve done a few year-end wrap up posts that I liked, with a humorous edge that I need to get back to. 2011 saw Good People, Bad People, Dead People. And last year was You Should, You Shouldn’t, and It Must Go Away.
This year, I am ending the year on vacation. A fairly complete vacation. Sri Lanka for a bit, then the Philippines. So instead of doing up a big end-of-year post… I’m going to go scuba diving.
In the meantime, I thought I’d end the year with some of my favorite Instagram photographs from the past three or so months. As you can tell, I’m trying to do more black and white stuff lately, but the sunsets here deserve full color. Please feel free to click through any of these and follow my Instagram feed, if you aren’t already. I’d certainly appreciate it.
Great photos. We saw the statue of the couple kissing as well this year. It slips my mind where it was, but I think it was at a train station?
It was absolutely at a train station. One of the main ones in London, St. Pancreas. Where you leave to go to Paris.
Beautiful photos all. I really like the sunset in the first photo – there are so many nice colors there.
Thanks so much. I need to spend some more time in sunset friendly zones in 2014, I think.
Loved all the pictures! To be honest, I still have to understand Instagram. I mean, I don’t consider it too important, but looking at your enthusiasm, I am curious to know what is it?!
Renuka, it is just a simple photo sharing social media system. Facebook bought it earlier this year, but it is its own unique system to share photos you take, mostly on your smart phone.
great shots, well done and looks like you’re enjoying that smart phone š — keep traveling and sharing, I enjoy your site!
Thanks Jim!
happy new year!
Just started using Instagram myself now and loving it! So easy to share photos with people, even though I have to build up some followers!! Great photos Michael.
Striking photos Michael! The colors in the first one are so beautiful. Where was it taken? That place is gifted with a damn pretty skyline.
These are stunning! Instagram is such a fun way to see a quick overview of time spent traveling. I’m taking a photography class, starting in a few weeks, so I’m aiming for my 2014 Instagram Roundup to be up to par with yours! š
These are excellent!
For a washed up basketball player turned lawyer…
You’ve got a pretty good eye.
These pictures are beautiful! Instagram really is fun š and I enjoy your lovely photos there too!
My favorite is the black and white geometric interior shot. What is that building? It’s gorgeous.
Awesome shots! Hard to believe they’re just from your phone, they look pro! Following you now š
FANTASTIC! the one of the couple kissing is breathtaking and I love the third one of the building with all its lines and shapes
I like your photos. I, too, am have become an Instagram fan although I haven’t really done much with it. Jim holds the Smartphone and I hold the big camera…but he does a great job with it, and I love the “insta” part!
Great photos. Love the atmosphere of all the b/w pics and all the geometry you have captured.
