Punta Cana Travel Guide – The What, Where and Why 1

Situated in the Dominican Republic, in the North of the Caribbean, Punta Cana’s lavish beauty is renowned. It is one of the most stunningly picturesque locations in the Dominican Republic, in the Caribbean, and even the world.

Punta Cana is located on the Eastern coast of the Dominican Republic, facing Puerto Rico, across a narrow stretch of clear blue sea. The name Punta Cana is actually an umbrella term used to refer to a group of several stunningly beautiful areas on the East coast: Cap Cana, Punta Cana, Cabeza de Toro, Bavaro, El Cortecito, Arena Gorda, Macao and Uvero Alto.

The Punta Cana area is widely acknowledged to be one of the fastest-growing tourist hot-spots in the Caribbean. People from around the world flock to its pearl-white, immaculate beaches, having heard of the breathtaking beauty of the area, and since Punta Cana now boasts more than 50 hotels, the region’s popularity doesn’t leave it crowded or busy either.

Well that’s much of the ‘what’ and the ‘where’, but how about the ‘why’?

Why journey to the other side of the world to Punta Cana with a travel company like Club Med? Well, Punta Cana is a hugely popular tourist destination for good reasons. It grew in popularity because the location is just so beautiful that it’s almost surreal. Pristine white beaches ease into immaculately clear blue waters, whose perfection seems to stretch endlessly to the horizon and beyond.

The world seems peacefully flat, except for palm trees dotted along the horizon, which provide shade as you gaze across the gently lapping ocean.

As if the spectacular beauty of this location were not enough, there are also many exciting things to do in Punta Cana. There are a huge variety of event organisers in the area, who arrange a multitude of activities for tourists. Scuba diving and boat tours are particularly popular, though other exciting activities are on offer, such as horse-riding across the beaches and helicopter tours.

There are even safari tours inland! If you prefer quieter holiday activities, however, Punta Cana and the Dominican Republic have a fascinating history to explore. Santo Domingo, the first European settlement of the Western Hemisphere, is only a short drive away, and is filled with heritage sights, such as the Cathedral of the Americas.

Punta Cana also offers a huge array of shops and top-quality restaurants to cater for your every need and make you feel at home in one of the most spectacular locations in the world. Some other countries who have great beaches include Vietnam and I also love the beaches of Sicily.
