As a part of the United Arab Emirates, Dubai is a part of the world that is becoming increasingly popular for visitors, and combines the glitz and glamor of a major metropolis with the ancient culture of this part of the world.
Along with my friend Laurence at Finding the Universe, I’m delighted to be able to give my readers the chance to win an airline ticket from Air France/KLM.
I really enjoyed my trip to Dubai, and it is certainly a part of the world that offers some diverse experiences, from taking a desert safari through to exploring some of the world’s most impressive modern architecture and engineering feats — and I hope you enter to win and enjoy it as much as I did.
The Facilities At The Al Ghurair Rayhaan by Rotana
One of the most striking features of the design of this hotel is the large windows, and all of the rooms have been designed to give visitors a spectacular view of the Emirate from those panoramic windows. The rooms are comfortable and all come with a luxury bathroom and the high speed internet access that is so important to a frequent traveler like me. The outdoor swimming pool area is a great place to relax and I must admit to using the relaxing spa area on every single day I was there. Heavenly.
The Food At The Hotel
A great highlight of my stay was the quality of the food at the hotel, and the spectacularly designed Shayan restaurant was certainly my favorite meal of the entire trip, offering some wonderful Iranian dishes. One of the most interesting dishes was the koobideh, which is a type of kebab which is served differently to many other parts of the world, with the spicy pieces of meat cooked on skewers and then served with rice, butter and sprinkled with sumac. Liwan is the buffet option in the hotel, and has a variety of different types of food on offer, while stopping for a cake and a drink at the Yasmine Lounge was also very nice.
Activities To Enjoy In Dubai
The range of activities on offer in Dubai is huge, and the UAE is famous for having some of the most opulent hotels and shopping malls in the world, with the Mall of the Emirates a great place to shop. Many of the locals enjoy a round at one of the surprisingly lush and well irrigated golf courses around the city, but to get a real taste for the history of the Emirate going to the Dubai Museum is well worth an afternoon.
One of my personal favorite activities was the desert safari, which I enjoyed with Multiline Holidays, which took us out into the rolling sand dunes outside the city, and took in some wonderful cultural experiences along the way too.
We were picked up from the hotel by our drivers from Multiline Holidays to join others in our group for the Desert Safari, with modern 4×4’s that were definitely ready to deal with the ups and downs that the sand had to offer. The dunes is definitely not somewhere I’d take my car, but the 4×4’s handled it well, and flying down the dunes definitely got the adrenaline pumping. One thing I am definitely glad about is that our driver brought his satellite navigation with him, as the dunes go on for miles in every direction, and it would be easy to get lost out there by yourself.
While I didn’t get the chance to see the camel racing during my trip to Dubai, the safari with Multiline Holidays did offer a chance to get to know the desert’s most famous animal, and we got a short ride on one of these notoriously cranky animals. My camel was perfectly docile however, and the ride was a fun way to see the desert at a slightly slower pace, with the rocking motion being a pleasant way to travel.
