Ed runs the travel photography website The Polar Route.

As he puts it, “anyone who jets off to far away lands can come home with the pictures they want to capture. I know it’s possible because I used to come home underwhelmed with the pictures I took. Now, after years of self teaching and practice I usually come home pleasantly satisfied.

Besides photography, I love to travel. I’ve been to 30-something countries on 5 continents and that list is steadily growing. I took my first overseas trip to London in January 2007 and I’ve been hooked ever since. While I’m always happy to chill out on a beach for a week, I’m even more passionate about unusual and challenging destinations. My favorite travel experiences include taking the Trans Siberian Railway across Europe and Asia (twice), driving around Iceland, going camping in Patagonia, and visiting Mongolia.

When I’m not traveling, I’m living and working in Chicago. My day job is a good one in that the schedule is flexible and it gives me the time off I need to travel, photograph, and write about it all.”
